Poppy Green is currently producing a series of short films called "Hands".

"I have always been fascinated by people making things. It's like magic to me, alchemy. Hands are our primary tools for creation, through them we make visible the invisible."

Made during workshops run within the community, the films are the antithesis to the way art is presented in galleries. "The job of the gallery is to remove the hand of the artist, and any trace of artistic struggle. Within the white cube of the gallery, outputs of creative process transcend the everyday and (importantly) accumulate value. The audience are encouraged to buy into ideas of artistic genius that can potentially alienate them from their own creativity. These films seek to root art making more firmly in a human space of play, experimentation and trial and error."
